Monument for the Royal Canadian Navy
Ottawa, 2012
A collaborative project with the architect, Joost Bakker. The overall monument site of two acres involved considerable land shaping and the judicious plantings of grasses and trees. The other elements include a naval mast and a shaped and inclined granite slab approximately 50’ x 55’. This granite base is cut with bronze strips that denote the east/west, north/south cardinal axes. A curved and tapered white marble form approximately 31 feet long that varies in height from 15 to 27 feet rises out of the granite. The marble form varies in thickness from top to bottom and end to end and is surmounted by a 5 foot in diameter gold leafed sphere.
